When it comes to building, refurbishing, or simply maintaining a computer, retail prices can really accumulate quickly. Retail prices just aren’t a convenient option to consider for your hardware components, especially if you’re in the IT business, whether it’s home-based, or corporate. Let’s take an HDMI cable, for instance. You might expect to pay around to for one at retail price (some of the longer cables even go for or more). Often times, you can bargain for one of these at a second hand store for much cheaper. This begs the question: “Is a silly cable really worth paying to more?” After all, these hardware parts are donated to many different outlets, and typically resold at a considerably lower price. You will more often find accessories at second hand outlets than your local retail stores. Upon practicing such accommodating habits, one will learn the true value of conservation and realize the deceptively high prices of simple hardware upon entering a retail store. Another common IT component is computer memory modules (or RAM). These are considered the easiest way to upgrade your PC, Mac, or laptop. The process involves simply opening up the side panel of your PC or Mac (all computer cases have their unique way of opening, whether it’s a latch, screws, or thumb screws), locating the memory slots, and directly adding, or replacing the memory modules. Laptops are slightly different since they are compact machines: typically, there’s a panel underneath that you unscrew to gain access to the memory modules. However, you do need to make sure that the modules are compatible with your machine. Many second hand and thrift stores have such items, and is certainly worth checking out. Often times, the owner/manager does not have intuitive knowledge of such items; they might consider them “generic” and you could potentially make a great bargain. When it comes down to it, second hand stores and other similar outlets can be the perfect gateway to saving you lots of money on your IT hardware. There’s usually no need to buy any IT component at retail price when you have such alternatives as this. Also, never be afraid to make an offer for something; this is often overlooked. It’s also worth mentioning that cash is an extremely effective commodity to have on hand due to its immediate value. You can usually great bargains if you approach it the right way.
